Hopkinson praises team effort

November 2009

Mark Two's Nick Hopkinson is ending a "strange" year on a positive note after fighting back from the loss of major contracts.
Hopkinson – known as "Hoppy" – who runs the distribution business with brother Chris, says in a personal email that staff, suppliers and customers have "pulled off the impossible" by recovering from the blow of its biggest customer, MFI, going bust earlier this year. "Our biggest customer went bust. Our second biggest supplier went bust – we were all pretty low," he says.
But a recovery plan, that Hopkinson says was embraced by everyone connected with the company, brought it to "a position where we are much happier with our situation".
Now numbering Wickes, Graham and Tesco among its customers, Hopkinson says: "The business is performing well, we are generating cash, jobs are more secure and we are investing for the future."
He adds: "Many companies would have folded. But this was a team effort that makes me swell with pride and emotion when I think of the support we had from fellow workers, customers, suppliers, mates and family."
