Wake-up to water saving

Tony Rheinberg, marketing manager at Ideal Standard's Armitage Shanks
With climate change increasingly impacting on the world's water resources, Ideal Standard is urging consumers to change their attitudes and wise up to water usage. "The average person in the UK uses 150 litres each day, yet nearly a third of this water runs down the drain without being used," says Tony Rheinberg, marketing manager at Ideal Standard's Armitage Shanks.

Despite the introduction of Part G legislation which aims to limit water usage in new builds to125-litres per person per day, Rheinberg believes there is still a considerable way to go when it comes to reducing usage, and that the bathroom – which receives 63% of water piped into UK homes – is the obvious place to start. "We are proud to be leading the industry, with more products registered on the Bathroom Manufacturer Association’s water efficient product labelling scheme than any other manufacturer," he continues. "Sustainable water isn’t just about reducing water, it is about using it responsibly. Our efforts will be futile unless they are recognised as part of a holistic approach to the problem, that combines product innovation, government intervention and widespread education."
